Azores Chapter IV the People

The LEICA M10-P was originally designed for street photography. It’s a particularly good combination when paired with the 35mm lens. The people in the Azores seem relaxed, but I think we travellers often get the wrong impression. We frequently see older people sitting back and enjoying a coffee or going for a stroll, but life in the Azores isn’t easy. You have to put up with logistical problems. You don’t get everything straight away, and sometimes you have to wait several weeks for small items to reach you. There are no major industries here, just many small employers who opt for self-employment. Yet you can still sense the people’s zest for life time and again; they are more modest than we are, simply placing greater value on each other or on nature. I think you always take a little of this outlook on life home with you. I was able to have many good conversations with locals, but I missed the chance to capture them in portraits, which I’m a bit annoyed about.
