The flora of the Azores bears the mark of Portugal’s eternal seafarers. They explored the world and, yes, they also enslaved the world. They brought plants to the Azores, and over the decades, not everything changed for the better, as more and more invasive species were introduced to the islands. I had a long conversation with Francesco, who has made it his life’s work to give the native plants of the Azores more space again. He bought up more and more land and planted an increasing number of the Azores’ useful and ornamental plants there.
